Karl Chaplin travelled down from Thetford to fish our Pleasure Lake and in a great session wasn't disapointed as he bagged 20 fish with Carp up to 15 and a half pounds.
Fishing on Peg 16 his tactics were to feed 4mm pellet with pellet hookbait. Fishing at between 2'-3' deep he caught his fish at just over 11 metres out.
With 9 weights over a ton the lakes fished well considering the terrible day's weather we had. Mick Godfrey (Ipswich) won the match with 128lb 15ozs from peg 16 on the Pleasure Lake. He fished pellet up-in-water on the pole and had carp to 12lb. On the opposite bank on peg 30 Kevin Kingston-Miles fished the waggler mid water with sweetcorn and feeding pellet and had a brilliant last half of the match and finished with 118lb 11ozs.
The Match Lake fished well and again a local angler Darren Mallet put up a great fight fishing mid-water on peg 7 and weighed in 106lb 15ozs but was pipped by Rob Austin (Rotherham) on peg 6 who weighed 117lb 15ozs. Keiren Rich (Manchester) also did well on peg 24 (which he drew the year before!) and had 103lb.
Warren Martin drew on the not so favored Top Lake and was on peg 12 and had 111lb and came 5th overall - well done!
Colton fished a little slow with 30 anglers pegged on it. Top weight went to Gary Kiddel on peg 5 with 73lb 3ozs and next was Lee Carver who had 63lb 11ozs from peg 34. Lee normally fishes mid water but had to switch tactics to cat meat on the bottom at 6 metres to find the fish.
Willow lake was won by Steve Tyler who had 75lb 10ozs from peg 33 and Phil Ringer on peg 14 had 74lb 14ozs.
There was a battle on opposite banks on Railway Lake between Grant Albutt (peg 42) and Andy May (peg 1) with Grant coming out the best with 108lb 4ozs leaving Andy in second place with 99lb 1ozs. But as the lakes at Barford fished well it unfortunately was not good enough on the day - very good effort though they were on fish for most of the match.
There certainly were some top class anglers on show and I am really pleased an East Anglian angler went through. Very bad luck to all those in the top 5 - all of them had lost the odd fish which could have won them the match - I'm hoping they're over it now though! Brilliant angling from all of them.
The 16 peg final is on Saturday 22nd July at Hayfiled Lakes and is on Sky Sports.
Below 1st row - Mick Godfrey, 2nd row Kevin Kingston Miles and 3rd row on left is Warren martin and on right is Rob Austin.
Wesley Scoffins from Norwich fished the pleasure lake today on peg 31. Fishing around 8-9ft out on the bottom Wesley used a rod and float with Luncheon Meat hook bait, feeding barford 6mm pellet and sweetcorn as groundbait. In a terrific 11 hour session Wesley landed 15 carp ranging from 7lb to 15lb with an overall weight of 153lb.
On a practice session for Fish-O-Mania on Wednesday, Karl Chaplin fished the Pleasure Lake on Peg 15 about 13 metres out and varying his depth between mid water and 2' deep. Karl caught most of his fish mid-water on hook pellet whilst spraying 4mm pellet little and often and had 20+ fish to 14lb. Not a bad confidence booster - the team at Barford Lakes wish him good luck on Wednesday...

Former Norwich City footballer Darren Eadies' son Taylor fished the pleasure lake and after only an hour bagged this stunning mirror carp...
After a long break from fishing Phil Hacking recruited our resident PAA coach Daniel Brydon to get back on the bank with some waggler fishing techniques. Fishing on the pleasure lake loosefeeding maggots and casters on a very wet and windy day Phil still managed an impressive bag of mixed roach and rudd, not bad after a break of ten years or more...
Heres Phil with one of the Smaller roach he caught.
After months and months of terrible weather, the temperatures are rising and more and more people are testing out the pleasure lake. Former Barford Tackle Assistant Nick Seaman displays one of the many carp caught on a pleasure session pole fishing at 4-6m on the bottom with sweetcorn as hookbait feeding barford 6mm pellets (5-10 pellets every minute).
Also whilst catching many Carp and bream Nick also latched into one of the rarer fish in the lakes... a golden tench...
As the weather warms up the big carp have started to feed and Gary and Matthew Applin had a days fishing on Pleasure lake Peg 3 fishing on the bottom and up in the water around 6 feet out using a combination of maggots and Van Den Eynde Nice n' Spicy luncheon meat. This 15lb 8oz Mirror was the pick of the fish and fell to the Luncheon Meat.
