Our 2004 charity match was held in aid of Quidenham Children's Hospice and Prostate Cancer (Fishathon) with 10% of all the proceeds going to the Barford Playgroup.
Keith Arthur was our special guest - cheers Keith, you made the day very special for many anglers. Thanks also to our other guests Geoff and Phil Ringer and this year's Fish-O-Mania winner Rob Hitchen. Thanks chaps for taking the time out to come to sunny Norfolk.
The day was a great success and our thanks go to all the anglers involved who helped raise a total of £1,755. Many thanks to all those who donated raffle prizes (especially the Ling family who brought loads of prizes!). Thanks also to the West Norwich Lions Charity Bacon Roll van who did the catering once again and also donated £200 to the funds.
Alan Hilton (Long Stratton A/C) was drawn on the Pleasure Lake, peg 28, just two swims from the winner. He made the most of it, landing fish throughout the day to catch a creditable 108lb 9oz's (pictures below).
Bob Gill (pictured above) was in action on the Top Lake, drawing peg 11 and tore the lake apart, finishing fourth overall with 110lb 11oz's. The closest angler to him on Top Lake was Phil Ringer, who caught over 65lb less on the day!
Glen Burden (pictured below) fished the Match Lake on peg 19 and landed some good fish to finish third overall with 115lb 12oz. Glen Mason (Oddfellows A/C) came second overall after drawing peg 14 on the Match Lake (pictured below).
Other notable results were Rob Hitchin with 110lb 2oz, Tony Burden with 100lb 4oz on the Match Lake, peg 7 and Ivor Larkins (Norwich Disabled A/C) who fished the on peg and weighed in with 99lb 3oz
The winner of the match had a beautifully decorated fruit cake to take home, kindly made by Mrs Ivor Larkins, and for the 2004 Charity Match event this was taken home by Barford Lakes Jim Barrowman, who weighed in at 146lb 11oz.
The Barford Tackle backed angler drew peg 30 on the Pleasure Lake and was a clear winner on the day fishing meat and spud, up-in-the water, spraying pellet.
So congratulations to the top three for the 2004 event - seen above. From left: Glen Burden, jim Barrowman, Keith Arthur and Glen Mason..
The raffle again proved a big success raising more money for our chosen charity of 2004 - thanks to everyone who contributed.
Finally, thanks again to my Nanny, Betty Thomson from the West End Cue Club in Costessey who made the delicious cakes and pies that were available at the end of the match, and a special thank you to Kevin Ford and Bob Gill. Kevin and Bob run the open matches at Barford Lakes throughout the year. Cheers to you both - for another year you've made sure that the draw and results for the match went along as smoothly as possible - it is appreciated.
