Barford Lakes Fishing Festivals

The Four day festival ended well with Warren Martin taking top honours with a perfect penalty point score of 4 and a clear 130lb ahead of Dan Hull’s (Leicester) 2^nd place.  Dan had 5 points – his worst result on day 2 on Willow when he came 2^nd in section.

3^rd place was Dave Reeve (Daiwa Angling Direct) with 6 points and 4^th place went to Matt Wiles – who amazingly has only fished the last 4 or 5 open matches and booked in last Wednesday!  We think Matt will be a match angler to look for in the future – he was even fishing Taswood Lakes for 48hours over the festival!  Great effort though for his first event.  Matt also fishes with Attleborough Match Group.

5^th place to “not so but nearly local” angler Keith “Della” Pearson (Doncaster) with 7 points and 259lb.

Warren’s methods and baits

DAY 1 – Colton Lake – 2^nd on lake, 1^st in section with 90lb 15ozs – peg 26

Peg 26 is not a noted peg at all and Warren struggled most of the match.  The site of a tail fin between his keepnet made Warren move his keepnets and fish inbetween them – his 90lb 15ozs weight was caught mostly in the last hour and half on corn feeding 4mm Barford pellet.

DAY 2 – Willow Lake – Lake winner – 177lb 14ozs peg 3

Peg 1 wasn’t  drawn making this an end peg – he caught most of his fish on the waggler casting to fish with an 8mm banded Barford pellet with no feed.  He had about 30lb down the edge on corn feeding pellet and corn in the last ¾ hour.

DAY 3 – Railway – 2^nd on lake – 121lb 14ozs – peg 50

Another end peg Wareen caught mostly at 13mts fishing shallow with banded 6mm feeding 6mm Barford pellet.  He had a few on the pellet method feeder using 6mm banded pellet.

DAY 4 – Barford Match Lake – Lake winner – 184lb 14ozs – peg 22

This was also the biggest weight of the festival which won him a Matrix rod.  Warren had about 6 carp on the pellet waggler feeding and fishing 8mm pellet.  And about 150lb came from the margin which he fished bunches of 4 – 10 dead red maggot over Sonubaits Red Krill Groundbait. He used a size 12 Matrix Carp Bagger hook and every fish he potted in a loose cupful of the krill grouynbait.

We shall run the festival again next year – possibly the 2^nd weekend of August.  TBC

Top 20 Anglers

Another scorcher!  The Match lake was won today by Dan hull from peg 22.  Dan had 155lb 13ozs and had his fish on the pellet waggler and at 14mts on the deck.  2nd was carp angler Matt Wiles with 104lb 13ozs which won him his section leaving him with a perfect 3 point score going into the final day tomorrow.  3rd was Gary Saddler with 96lb 7 from peg 5.

Willow Lake was won by Keith Pearson (Doncaster) with 88lb 7ozs from peg 8 and 2nd Barford Tackle's Jack Gill with 82lb from peg 3.  3rd place was taken by Dave Jarvis (Daiwa Angling Direct) who had 70lb from peg 1

Railway fished very well with the top weight coming from Dave Reeve (Daiwa Angling Direct) who fished the method feeder with banded pellet from peg 18 and caught 129lb 6, leaving Dave on 3 points also.  2nd was current Fih-O-Mania champion (Matrix / Barford Tackle) who drew end peg 50 and caught 121lb 14ozs and also winning him his section.  3rd place was Shaun Lanagan with 101lb 3ozs

Top weight of the day was from current Fish-O-Mania champion (yay!) Warren Martin (Matrix / Barford Tackle) who had an awesome 177lb 14ozs!!  Warren caught mid water and down the edge from peg 3 on Willow Lake.  He is now on two points and leading the festival.  2nd on Willow lake was Tony Dawson (VDE) who had 68lb 13ozs from peg 11.

Railway was won by Matt Willes from peg 4 with 105lb 14ozs which leaves him in second place overall on the festival, also on a perfect 2 points - but a 100lb behind leader Warren Martin!

First day of the festival kicked off well today.  Top angler on the day was Ray King (Barford Tackle) fishing the pellet waggler and method feeder from peg 7 on the Match Lake he caught 120lb 14ozs.

He was closely followed by Dan Hull who fished Colton and caught 120lb 13ozs from peg 2.  Current Fish O Mania champion (yay!) Warren Martin (Matrix/Barford Tackle) was second from peg 26 fishing close in and caught 90lb 15ozs.

Willow's top weight was from peg 12 fished by Dave Reeve (GOT Baits) with 85lb 14ozs with fish to 13lb 8ozs.
